Galatasaray in Europe

Galatasaray was founded in 1905 in Istanbul by Ali Sami Yen and other pupils at Galatasaray High School, a school dating from 1481, and has 26 Turkish league titles, a record. In Europe the club won the UEFA Cup in 2000 after a penalty shoot-out against Arsenal in the final in Copenhagen, and the UEFA Super Cup in 2000 against Real Madrid, where Mário Jardel scored both goals. The club is the only Turkish side to have won a major European title. It reached the European Cup semi-final in 1989, losing to Steaua Bucharest.

The supporters, led by ultrAslan, welcome guests with “Welcome to Hell”: flares, smoke, drums, flags and giant banners. Before the team line-up there is a scarf display, and the chant “üçlü” opens the match. After every goal “I Will Survive” is played, followed by a lion roar.
