AEK Aten in Europe

AEK Athens was founded in 1924 in Athens by Greek refugees from Constantinople and has 14 Greek championships. In Europe the club was the first Greek side to reach the European Cup quarter-final in 1969, where it was knocked out by Spartak Trnava, and the first Greek side to reach the UEFA Cup semi-final in 1977, after wins over Derby County and QPR, before being knocked out by Juventus. The Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final was reached in 1997 and 1998, and the Conference League quarter-final in 2026. AEK is the only Greek club to have won every domestic competition organised by the Hellenic Football Federation.

Champions League matches not to miss

European nights in Athens have often been against big names: Juventus in the 1977 UEFA Cup and Spartak Trnava in the 1969 European Cup. If a heavyweight side comes to Athens, that tradition continues. Fenerbahçe is another club that met AEK in a final, the 1967 Balkans Cup, which makes a meeting charged with past memories.

The atmosphere on Champions League nights

The club is called the Énosi, the Union. The emblem is the Byzantine double-headed eagle, and the yellow and black colours share the same Byzantine origins. The best-known supporters' group is called Original 21. AEK Athens tickets in the Champions League give you a place in a crowd with a strong history behind it.
